Matt received the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device for his courageous leadership in Mogadishu, Somalia which was immortalized in the film Black Hawk Down. Matt later deployed to Iraq for 15 months during the Surge, and retired in 2008 after 20 years of service.
Committed to sharing the lessons he learned in the military, Matt draws parallels from his experiences to highlight the importance of leadership, courage and responsibility within any team or enterprise. Most important is his desire to explain the dynamics of avoiding “strategic shock” where organizations are crippled by unforeseen disasters.
Charlynda Scales is an Air Force Veteran, TEDx speaker, brand ambassador, social media influencer, and the founder and CEO of Mutt’s Sauce, LLC, a company that she started while still serving on active duty and makes “the sauce for every meal.” Mutt’s Sauce was the Grand Prize Winner of Bob Evan’s Farms’ 2017 Heroes to CEOs Contest.
She is a Clemson University graduate, with a degree in Aerospace Science and Business Management. She also holds an MBA in Strategic Leadership.
